Guest 85tzcheees
1:LT1 2:LS1 3:TPI 4:Z06 what is the best engine, i mean in like hp and stuff? can u guys give me the engine size of these engines either by liters or cubic inches? Are these engines almost all alike because i was wondering if one fits then maybe one of the other ones should fit as well( i have an 85 300zx). how do u know what engine it is if u buy one from like eldelbrock or something and it just says 350 chevy? Tim240z
Your best bet is going to punch those engine designations into google or something. Z06 is a Corvette model, not an engine designation. The Z06 got the LS6 I believe. Quick rundown: LT1: Corvette, camaro, firebird, Caprice (iron heads): 5.7L and 4.3L from 92 to 97 LS1: Corvette, camaro, firebird:98 on TPI: Corvette, camaro, firebird: 80s to early nineties. Guest ON3GO
LT1 is from the F-bodys. pre 1998 LS1 is in F-bodys and reg vettes from 1998 to 2004 LS6 is from Z06 from 2001 to 2004 all are are 5.7's gonna keep it stock? what mods? all have strong blocks, i think the LT1 has a strong block cuz its iron.. the Z06 motors put out the most power stock. 2001 had 385 and 2002 from 2004 had 405hp. all will need mods to make them fit in a Z31. mike

Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Is it just me, or is this question what is the best engine, i mean in like hp and stuff? becoming much more common around here? Um, the best engine is the one that you figure out fits your needs the best. Learn about them, figure out what you want, and make a selection. What is best for one person, may be horrible for someone else. Some members here would love to have a carburated 383 in their Z and many would agree that that is a great selection. I would even say it is a great selection, but it would be horrible for my needs. While an TPI swap may be what one person wants, someone else may want a carb. I offer the same advice as Tim240z, start with google.
Guest DAT V8
the BEST engine would be a hemi motor. get one of those and a solid rear axle... tub it. you'd be SET! no one would touch you on the street.

Another example of one person's opinion. A falconer V-12 that someone else may want to use would spank the crap out of any hemi. You could also build a twin-turbo 383 as some people already have done which might even spank the theoretical falconer swap. Or you could do an L28 swap and spank all the above in autocross. grumpyvette
hemis are 40 year old tech. even the new "HEMI" is a twisted wedge not a true hemi, the last true hemis were the 392 and 426 hemis in the 50s-70s look at the cost to hp differance the hemi weight more, is larger and costs about $3000 more for the same power levels http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=prod_detail&catid=122&pid=122 http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=prod_detail&catid=122&pid=614 if you want to run MOPAR HERES A GOOD DEAL http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=prod_detail&catid=122&pid=618 BUT KEEP IN MIND CHEVY HAS A BETTER SELECTION OF PARTS AND LOWER AVERAGE PRICES the twisted wedge bbc is a better and easier to install package http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=prod_detail&catid=3449&pid=156314 anything you can do to the hemi to increase power you can do to the bbc, and extract equal or better power for less expence with only one exception, and that exception is running huge percentages of nitromethane fuel, but untill you get to hp levels over 2000hp the bbc still easily wins the hp per dollar spend race! now I love the older 392 hemis, but it will cost you easily an additional 30% more to build and race a hemi btw they now make (HEMI CHEVYS) http://www.sonnysracing.com
