Mike C
What's your goal? A 255 hp L-98 from a 90-91 'vette or 245 hp motor from an F-body (same motor, different rating...) would be great in a Z stock. Pocket port the heads, add a cam and lifters along with a spring upgrade and you should be near 300 hp with small tube headers. That should make for a low 13 sec Z car. You really don't HAVE to do anything to put a supercharger on it but buy the kit... With the 9.5:1 compression you would be limited to about 6 psi. Guest zconvert
v8dats - go with an LT1 man! I agree with you on the looks of the L98, one of the best looking motors going, but personally I think the rumors of L98's being torquier than LT1's are overblown (no pun intended). Also, the gas mileage is considerably better with the LT1. One advantage I do see with the L98 is electronics, they are simpler on the older cars, one 02 sensor, no OBD-II, etc.
Guest Big Phil
I'm currently doing a Lt1 swap, but if I could do it again I probably would have used a L98. Since the Lt1 was only produced for a couple of years, the performance parts are more much expensive. For example several people on the forum are struggling with the A/C and Power Steering delete issue. There are only two companies that offer serpentine pulley systems, both systems retail for over $500.00. Another issue is trying to find angle plug block hugger headers with d shaped ports. I bought mine for $400 from Speed and Performance. An aftermarket wiring harness, cams and upgraded heads are also more expensive. If fact LT1 parts cost way more than LS1 stuff. I think the Lt1 is a great engine but the extra expenses definitely add up. I say go with a L98 or LS1. Phil
