namz7791
I have the seventh edition of the JTR conversion manual and it appears to be the most popular conversion in this forum. Just wondering if any of you have used the kit that John's cars offers other than his new LS1 kit. Anybody have an opinion of which is better? Thanks! Phantom
My car was the prototype that the John's Cars LS1 kit was developed from. If you want to go SBC then the JTR manual is by far the best way to go. If you want to go LS1 and need a manual like the JTR manual then you're in trouble. John sells components for experienced mechanics/electricians. He does not provide information support. Don't get me wrong, though. His components are very well thought through and well made. I've been very pleased so far.
BBC Z
i used a johns car kit in 91 on a conversion and I thought it was horibble. the engine sat to the far right side way forward in the compartment. Unless things have changed I would use JTR. I built all my own stuff on my current project. but used the jcr manuals to get alot of the info. Found other ways to do things cheaper than they say but you have to be able to do some fab work and use your imagination. For instance I am running a T56 on an 68 396BBC the clutch had me scratching my head they suggested a centerforce conversion that cost almost a grand. I built my own with McCloed clutch and pressure plate and Howe hyd throw out bearing and have maybe 350.00 in it and it works perfect.
