Moridin
Almost hit the 500HP mark today with mom's Cobra. Horsepower mods are as follows: JBA shorty headers, Magnaflow cat-back, Accufab throttle body, Apten ported Eaton blower (ported stock blower), 2.80" Apten pulley, Steeda cold air intake (replacement for the Densecharger which I will explain later), and a custom tune courtesy of Shawn Ellis (awesome, awesome guy). We ended up installing all the blower stuff Friday night and early Saturday morning; roughly 2:30A or so and we were supposed to be at Apex Saturday morning around 9:00A. After getting to Apex around 10:00A we found out that they were still working on the first car (we were third in line), because it was throwing a fit. The same thing happened to next car, which ended up making a little over 400RWHP bone stock with Shawn's help. Our turn rolled around, and the butterflies were full bore, because we had done all the work ourselves on a $10,000 motor. Shawn loaded a conservative tune, based on the mods we had described. They go to run it up and the damn thing starts pinging like crazy. Shawn maxed out the fuel settings in attempts to make sure it was extremely rich. Damn thing read lean again, and begin to ping like nothin' else. In attempts to make a really long story short, the Densecharger was the cause of the problem with a curve before the MAF, so it wasn't getting a good reading causing the car to run lean. We were lucky Apex had a Steeda CAI, so we installed it in a few minutes and prayed. Sure enough, the car went way fat, and put out roughly 422HP. Two tunes later we were at what the dyno graph says on this page. If we had more time, Shawn would have attempted get us to 500, but belt slip was making it hard. If you look at the AF ratio where it dips, that's where the car was only making 12PSI of boost where it should have been closer to 14 or 15. An idler pulley should take care of that quite easily. The moral of the story is to make sure your MAF sensor is getting good laminar airflow P.S. Mike Kelley, if Shawn Ellis ever makes it anywhere near your area, I would take your Vette to him. He's an awesome guy and know's his stuff. The guy can tune. He does all Fords and Vettes.
Guest zfan
Awsome numbers, should be pretty quick to say the least. Mike
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Stick one of them "R" emblems on the trunk and you will hit the 500 mark!
Moridin
I think if we put the Supercharged emblem under the SVT and we should be right there. We are going to order the idler pulley today or tomorrow, so all that slip will go away. Now it's Viper hunting time

ROFL Those decals must be good for getting your car into low orbit these days, it seems by the way guys are sticking them on their cars! SleeperZ
Very impressive numbers indeed! It's also interesting information on how critical it is the way the air flows into the MAF. I modified the MAF on my Z31 ECU setup by cutting the original element out and re-installing it in a larger ID pipe. I didn't retain the screens, and was worried the airflow was not going to behave properly. I dyno'd it and the a/f seemed to behave, so maybe I got lucky. Moridin
Now if I can just figure out how to get a Cobra motor (aluminum block though just gonna put 2003 Cobra internals and heads on) in my Z.

The biggest problem was the bend right before the MAF. It seemed to cause a real problem with it working properly. There is now a new intake out courstesy of JLP that puts the MAF in the fender well directly behind the air filter. Cold air and proper MAF placement on the design makes 427HP on a stock pullley, catted X pipe, and cat-back exhaust. That's about 20 more horsepower than a similarly equipped car with a Steeda intake or Densecharger.
