Darrel
I picked up my block from the machine shop. They only needed to hone it out .002. I bought total seal rings, the ring gap range for ea cyl is either .027 or .029. According to the book, my ring gap should be .014, total seal .014-.020. I was hoping that I would need to file the rings to the desired gap measurement. The final bore is 3.388, stock is 3.386 The total seal rings I bought, the 2nd ring is the gapless. The top ring is conventional. Any ideas, is this normal or should I call and get different rings? This was a junk yard motor with unknown mileage and i just wanted to do a stock rebuild. btw, nissan standard turbo rings are NLA. thank you
Guest Anubis
My friend and I are both working on L28ET motors. He is putting one in his 240Z and i'm putting one in my 280Z. I don't know where his motor is from but mine came from a 1983 280zx Turbo. I'm shooting for arounf 350-450hp. So if you've got some info and what not i'm in to learn more. Going for a basic rebuild with a few diffrent things. Such as a aftermarket intercooler, HKS Super Sequential Blow off Valve, and buying some mandrel bent piping then cutting it and rewelding it to fit. Are you looking at an EMS? Lockjaw
Get the rings 1mm over and file fit. The second ring is gapless, hence the name, total seal. You can also run sealed power rings for the turbo, they are chrome, but a chrome ring does not seal well if your cylinders are out of round at all, so unless you had a toque plate, I would go with something else. I used a sealed power economy ring on my 280ZX motor I built last year, and they sealed right up. The Hastings XC ring or whatever is supposed to be a good one too. Darrel
I talked to toal seal today. I'll send the top rings back and they will send new top rings for a 3.395 bore so I can file them to fit. Thanks for the info. btw, this is for my 82 280zxt.
