Lewis Maudlin
OK, I know that this may belong in paint, but I need a quick response in a high traffic area. I am getting ready to paint my 74.5 260 that has had the bumpers switched to early z bumpers. It goes in the paint shop next week. I still don't have a color. It is a 400 hp sbc daily driver with air. Any suggestions on color? Pictures are helpful. I was thinking bright yellow then silver now red, I don't know. No additional plastic on the car other than the front air dam to keep the front end of the car on the ground at speeds of less than 55 mph. Someone make some suggestions. Thanks
Guest Anonymous
Always a difficult choice! Red and yellow will increase visibility; not a good thing if you tend to vote with your right foot. Silver is very stealth and with some base coat tricks can do wild things under different lighting. My personal choice is going to be a deep red metallic. Time is running out for you...let us know and take pics!!
Lewis Maudlin
Increased visibility is not a problem. 0 pts on my license in two years of v-8 z'ing and numerous slain vettes. Any good suggestions, what can be done with silver? Thanks.
Guest Thurem
British racing green, for low copvisibility, yet with a classic look and racing heritage. Even though it's not a british car, it aludes to the history of the Z as it took designclues from the Jag. E-type. Thure
Guest Anonymous
Silver. looks clean for a long time.looks good with black The early Zs came in a good shade of silver for a stock color. Victoria British has a silver Z on the catalog cover of the Spring/Summer Edition
Guest the_dj
This is a graphite color. Looks GOOOOOOD. Picture I know numerous people who would shoot me if I changed colors. Sam
DCZ
My 71 is painted the stock Datsun 112 yellow and gets lots of looks/compliments. Very easy to pick out in a crowd. It is a lot more yellow than green, and a lot more green than yellow. Kind of a cross between these two guys: I don't know how to post a pic so I will email you one. Guest timhypo
Oooh, I wanna see the green datsun. If you email it to me, I'll post it on my webspace and post it here as well. I was gonna go maroon with gray viper stripes, but the lime green sounds interesting. I always liked the orange 240s, but I got a deal on a white one (originally brown). Guest Aaron
I am personally a fan of the dark colors (burgundy, hunter green, pete's blue, etc.), however, I have had a black ZX, a white escort gt, a teal mazda pickup, a red pontiac sunbird, a burgundy nissan pickup, and a dark green pathfinder, and I have to say I do not like the heat a dark car builds up in the sun. The white car was by far the easiest to keep clean. When I washed it, I did not miss spots like I do with the other colors. After saying all this, I am now wondering what a basically stock Z would look like in white (possibly with the trim blacked out).

pparaska
I have a color blind buddy that always paints his 240Zs white. A year or two later when the rust starts popping out, the BROWN RUST stains make it look like total garbage. To me white is just so boring and hides the curves of the car. I feel the same way about bright colors on a Z - dark colors with some pearl or metalic in them really accentuate the beautiful lines of the Z. I like stealthy colors also - makes me feel less of a target in my speeding-ticket-fanatical, cop-infested region. My second choice was a dark Maroon, with a dark grey charcoal like SuperDan and now the_dj has on that beauty was a very close third. I have two other cars that are Maroon, so a third would be too much. The downside to any dark color is it looks so much less attractive when the first particles of dust start settling on it. I keep the California Duster in the hatch . JMO, everybody has an opinion on colors, just somethings to consider.
Guest Anonymous
Indiana, It seems that RacerX on this site is a good resource for the technical aspect of paint and bodywork. Ask your bodyshop for some ideas on tricking out the silver, or whatever color you choose. Maybe they have some examples?? The Summer 2002 issue of Sport Z magazine features an excellent 73 240 painted Porsche 'anthracite' gray. Don't you just love all the choices? Guest Aaron
Originally posted by timhypo:There's one here. After looking at these pics, I am going to have to agree with Petep on this one. The white hides too much of the lines of the car to be a good color. If you cannot pick a color, you could always use that dupont paint that Jeff Gordon used at Charlotte a couple years ago that changed to about seven differnt colors depending on how the lite hit it. Guest jdllaugh
I like the color on this Bad Boy, although I can't say I like the height.
danj
The stock color on my 83ZX was called Platinum Silver, with clear coat and black pin striping. Naturally I am prejudice on this but I have not seen a color combination for accessories, trim, interior, etc. that looks better JMHO . I think the best colors are the one's you like best on your car. Dan H
Lewis Maudlin
OK, a lot of choices. Here is my problem. My body guy is known for being an excellent body work guy and an OK paint guy. My car needs body work and the super paint guys don't do body work so my body guy will do everything. Some of those fancy colors looked like $4000 paint jobs. I need one that my paint guy can do and still look good. I liked the Audi blue: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/pparaska/VariousPics25Aug2001.htm and I liked the candy apple red although the car was a bit scary: http://zparts.com/events/wcn2002/promo/image/DCP_3336.jpg I was thinking about the Charcoal but this car just looked a little too euro: http://www.djss.net/carpics/frontpassenger.jpg My paint guy can probably do lighter colors better than darker colors. The lighter colors hide more. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Lewis
Guest Big Phil
I'm a big fan of yellow. I think I going to repaint it the same color once I'm finished Phil Picture of my car when it was yellow
