Guest acfitz
I am finally working on my z project, after only 2 short years of procrastination. I haven't picked up the jtr manual as of yet, but plan to. I was wondering mods have to be done to the engine bay to fit a chevy v8 in there? QWKDTSN
Get rid of the stock hood latch, slot crossmember holes, reroute brake lines for pass. side exhaust, clean up wiring and remove unneccessary stuff (coil, underhood light, voltage regulator, fuel filter, etc). The JTR book has several good pages with pictures of before/after so you'll see just what you need to do.
pparaska
One of the things I don't really care for in the JTR design is the hood latch bracket. Some do away with the latch and use hood pins. I moved it over about 6 inches: http://alteredz.com/Enginemount.htm The only mod I made was to bump the tunnel a bit, about 4" back from the firewall on the passenger side. This was to clear the big steel blowproof bellhousing.
j260z
with the LT1, because the distributor is on the front of the engine, there is no need to change the existing hood latch.
love-my-V8-280Z
As for the hood latch. Just drill out the welds, when the motor as been installed insert bolt were you have drilled the welds out....
Guest acfitz
What year did the lt1 come out of? Is this available as a crate motor?
Dan Juday
As for the hood latch. Just drill out the welds, when the motor as been installed insert bolt were you have drilled the welds out.... Actually Terry, that won't work. If you have your dizzy in the back it will hit the lower section of the stock latch. I've had no trouble with the JTR two piece bracket in my car. Hard to see with the plenum extention on, but the distributor ends up right under the latch. I understand Petes' gripe because you need to remove the two bolts connecting the two parts together to get your distributor cap off. Petes' solution is more work initially because you need to move the hood mounted portion of the latch as well. Kind of depends on how often you plan on messin' with your dizzy.
