Guest acfitz
I have got my 74 260 completely ripped apart, now it is time to consider which motor to put in it. Can anyone please tell me the differences/benifit/drawback of each of these motors? I would also like to know what years of cars they came in and if they would be available as a crate motor? Thanks for your help.
utvolman99
I will not be able to give you all your answers but I can give you some of the pros and cons. -The LT1 is going to run you a LOT less $$$ than the LS1 -It will be a lot easier to find help if installing an LT1. (A lot of people have done the swap) -With the LT1 you can use the JTR kit with the LS1 you cant. You would have to engineer all the brackets and such. -The LS1 is a better engine design (newer tech) -The LS1 could give you more power but at a price $$$
Phantom
Check your budget. Johns Cars in Dallas, TX makes a kit for the LS1 swap. Just motor & tranny mounts won't set you back too badly and then you can pick and choose from there. LS1 prices are coming down. They are available from '97 & up Corvettes and '98 & up Camaro Z28's, SS's, and Firebird Formulas & T/A's. You can also get them as a crate motor if you have lots & lots of money. With the LS2 coming out I would expect LS1 prices to drop even further. I saw a combination LS1 & T56 for sale the other day for $1,700. Downside was it had about 80,000 miles on it. For twice the price you could have a combo with 25-30,000 miles.
