Realize the piping will have to change on ANY IC upgrade. It may be cheaper to do the piping only once with the right IC; the price of the IC rarely dominates the whole cost of installation and piping. And that 1st gen DSM IC is very restrictive with inlet/outlet smaller than 2", and a very small core that heat soaks quickly.

Agreed, though you would see some benefit from installing ANY I/C, for sure, that I/C is definately not a great choice, it will be very restrictive for your setup and will most likely cause too much pressure drop as well. I also agree that due to it's small size it will heat soak and wont really drop your intake temps as much as you want. Hold out for a better unit, as it will suck to have to redo the pipes all over again later.

Also, you don't need the I/C right away to get some extra power. You can turn up the boost 2-3psi w/o needing the I/C. If I were you, I'd just buy a cheap, do-it-yourself boost controller, turn the boost up, enjoy the newfound power, and save up for a better I/C in the meantime.

One I/C you might want to look into, is the same one I bought. It is the factory I/C that came with the Buick Grand National GNX's. I bought mine for ... heh well now I'm getting foggy, I think it was $50 or at the most $75. Anyways, they are a good, thick I/C, with large inlets and outlets. They are used with a turbocharged, 3.8L motor, so it should have no problem keeping up with the flow demands of your 3.0 V6. Also, I've heard many cases of guys running up to about 400hp in their GNX's and still running the stock I/C, so they can handle a lot of flow well.

The one downside, for me at least, I dont know how this would apply to a 300zx, is that the inlet and outlet pipes need to be 'moved' to work well, but this isn't going to be very expensive. Anyways you can probably also pick up one of these cheap from ebay or something.
