DaleMX
Hi guys, this is my first post so I’ll make it brief. I am very interested in putting a ’99 LS1/T56 into a 280Z. I have been working on a kit car, but things have changed at my house because of the health of my wife and I don’t have the time to finish the kit before she would have a chance to ride in it (Classic Roadsters Sebring MX with about 1 or 2 years left to finish). Well the kit is going up for sale and I have a LS1/T56 that I can use in a conversion. I am looking for a little starting guidance on finding a car in the Atlanta area and maybe some advice on a mount kit. I have been to Johns Cars Inc. and think this is a good place to start. Any help or advice on this mater would be helpful to me. For what it’s worth I am using a Thunder racing 230/224 110 LSA cam, ASA shop (Twister engines in Alpharetta Ga.) prepped heads, True roller rockers, hardened pushrods, LS6 intake, Billet fuel rails and 30 lb. Injectors. JPR ported throttle body, dual row timing chain, ported oil pump. I also have 4 different headers to try. LS6 (Vette) exhaust manifolds, LS1 exhaust manifolds, Pacesetter Long tubes, and Mac mid length headers. Other parts include the aluminum driveshaft and AC compressor. I like the technical theme of this site and am impressed with the content. Dale Lovell
Guest Anonymous
Start here, you may have seen this. I'm about to start the same thing. Good luck and welcome. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=32085
DaleMX
Thanks, looks like that setup would be what I need. Now my problem is finding a suitable Z to work on. I had a 280 years ago and even have a spare FI engine in the basement (doesn't everybody?!). The local newpaper had like 1 or 2 rustbuckets in it this weekend. Ebay has a few cars but I worry about going across state lines without being able to see the car. Here's a pic of the kit in progress around January. http://www.circuitflex.com/SebringNow.jpg Dale
Phantom
There is a zcar club in the Atlanta area. I don't know their web site but if you go to http://www.zcluboftexas.org and go to th elinks you can find them. You can also locate them using your web browser and "z car clubs". If you go to them they will have some decent cars for sale and probably some good leaads on others in the area. Good luck!
Guest Aaron
I know there is a 280 near where I work (Gadsden, AL) that has been sitting in front of a business for a couple months with a flat tire. I think I looked at this car once before when it was at a local used car lot. If it is the same car, it was a salvage recovery vehicle. I was told it had a front fender replaced. I do not remember seeing any damage to the inner fenders, so it may not have been that bad. You would definately want to raise the car up and look at it from the bottom. If you would be interested, I could get you some contact information. And by the way, I am the New guy here. (The name is Aaron New, nice to meet you.) iaconsultants
Nice start for the kit, but it is too bad that you are not going to complete it, while it is nice you are going to work on a V8Z. I just wanted to let you know that you are very correct in being concerned with buying on Ebay. I won 5 Z cars on Ebay and only have one of those and I saw that one before I bought it (I was in the town to see it). I found out that if you are intending to go pick up the car and bring the cash with you, the fake ones drop out fast. One said they wrecked the car while taking one last drive in it, another said the car was stolen (turned out to be true this case), another said that someone locally just bought it, and the funniest one was from a guy, that said he drives it like a grandmother, he said he threw a rod while driving it to his parents house and they live about 10 minutes away. Must have been speed freak tire smoking Grandma that he was referring to. In any case there are a variety of places to search for possible cars and Ebay is one but here are some others. http://www.zcar.com/classifieds http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com and do a search on yahoo for cars for “Datsun Z for sale†I also have one (Black 76 280Z) I am going to either sell or part out or something and you can see if it works for you, but the only bad part is that it is in Arcadia near LA but here is the link - http://iaconsultants.tripod.com The best thing I can suggest if you are looking for a car is find one near you that you can look at. If that is not possible and you think you found a car you might want see if you know someone that lives there and have them look at the car for you. Make sure they realize what you are needing when it comes to the condition of the car. Also, if the car is in LA or Houston, let me know and I will take some pictures and describe it the best I can and let you know if it is workable. Think about what you are going to do with the car like V8 conversion so the motor and trans do not need to be there or even work. If you are going to do flare work then you can except rust in areas that you are going to remove anyway. If you fine to your requirements you can probably find a really good deal and the owner will be glad to part with it easily. Well I hope this helps Robert
DaleMX
All I can say is thanks for the great response guys! I'll keep you updated on my progress on finding a car. The Z club sounds like a great idea and I will go after that today. Once again Thanks, Dale 8)
