spdsk8r
Quite a while back there was a thread about using a throttle body "hat" from a Volvo on a Holley carb for a cold air intake. I used the search function with no results. Does anybody have a photo of this "hat" in use on a Holley equipped 350? I can't find any in the local yards, and I have a out of town friend who works at a repair shop specializing in Volvos. He sent one to me, but it was the wrong one, the smaller diameter hole came out of the top instead of the side. Can anybody help? Thanks
spdsk8r
I searched again, this time I got results. I found Strotters post with pic. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=22113&highlight=volvo
Guest zfan
Rick, The hat you want is off the Dodge 5.9 liter motor found in their trucks. It fits Holley 4 barrels. It fit my Holley 750 dp and cleared the stock hood as well. I believe the one we used was off a 1999 Dodge Dakota 5.9. Mike
Z-TARD
I just picked up a carb hat today from a 1984 Audi 5000. Looks close to the one in the pictures linked above, although it has a slightly larger opening for the cold air pipe. The opening in the end is strangely exactly the right size to fit around the base of an american 4 bbl carb. Unfortunately, it won't clear the choke assembly and linkage on my 770 street avenger because it is to low profile. I'm thinking of constructing a 2" riser for it out of aluminum, just high enough to clear the linkage, and still low enough to close the hood. Maybe..... Will post pics if anyone is interested. WickedWild
I just picked this up on Ebay, I'll let you know how it looks.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2475547168&ed=1083193146
Z-TARD
I really like that ebay one. Makes my Audi look like the euro-trash it is Mike
WickedWild
It's a clean looking peice. I'm thinking of running a cone style filter off of a 4" intake tube instead of running an internal filter. http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/guest/guest_book_photo.jsp;jsessionid=aaahwfuXo1ebzO?machineid=wmtp002&shareName=photo&invite=KEFJ4tJthYhKakV7z0MU&shareName=Photo
Guest BillV
That looks like what I've been thinking about for my ZX. How will it perform airflow-wise compared to an open element low profie unit? A cone filter near the stock location seems like a good way to go.
Guest greimann
Stock hats are kind of restrictive. You guys probably need one of these:

Guest BillV
That's a nice setup, why didn't you go with a dual snorkel? I didn't know how much room there was going to be for an air cleaner, and I want to use the stock hood without cutting it. I have the power rack, and I heard you can't set the engine as low with that setuo
Guest greimann
Look at my web site for details on the modification. I didn't use the dual snorkel because there was no room for it. A single 4" is adequate anyway. The clearance is very tight. I doubt it would work with a carburetor on a setup that also has to accomodate a power rack. The TBI is lower profile than a carb. It might be possible to section the housing and use a 2" filter element. My setup uses a standard 3" filter element.
