240zprace
i'm thinking about buying some centerline wheels (mojave). 16x7 w/4" backspacing in front and 16x8 w/5" backspacing in rear. my question is will the 5" backspacing in the rear w/ some 215/45/16 clear my 72 240zt rear strut housing??? Tim240z
I have a set of 16 x 8 s all around and the rears clear my COILOVERS by about 1/4 inch, also with 5" back space. Best thing to do is to put a straight edge on your hub, measure 11 inches up from center and then see how much room you have to your strut. With 215s on that 8" rim, the rim will be the widest point, not the tire. I am running 245/45 -16s all around. Tim
Savage42
Tim, I'm planning to go with the same size wheels & tires on my 280Z. Are you running any spacers and did you roll the fender lip? Thanks.
Tim240z
nope and nope. But to run the 5" Back Spacing, you will need coilovers. Without the 5" backspacing, you would probable need to roll the fenders. One caveat, though....I have ~12inch rotors on the front with 4 pot calipers. The rotor hats slip over the lugs (not bolted to the back of the hub like OEM). This adds ~1/2" to the hub (like a 1/2" spacer, I suppose). There is still enough space inside if I didn't have the spacer.
z-ya
I'm running the same setup as Tim, and there is no problem with tire to coilover clearance (you definitely need coilovers with a 5" BS). I think I've got my Z set a bit lower than Tim, because I did have to trim about 1/4" off the horizontal rear fender lip. No front modifications needed. Savage42
That's what I was wondering. With the car getting new paint with a bare metal resto, it's the time to roll those lips, anyway. Thanks for the input.
