Guest Anonymous
Is it possible to use the stock 280 zx manual tranny in any v-8 conversion?
Guest Anonymous
The tranny in the turbo 280s is a t-5, THE manual tranny for v-8s in the 80's. Datsun put it in, fearing that theirs wouldn't hold up to a turbo. As for the non-turbo, it turned out to be stronger tranny anyway, but I don't know that it's feasible to connect it to a v-8. Guest greimann
I would suppose ANYTHING is possible given enough time, money and expertise in machining adapters, but I don't think it would be worth the trouble to try, considering the availablilty of bolt up options. Also, all T5's are not created equal. Even T5's from the V6 Camaros are different internally than the V8 versions. If my Camaro T5 ever blows up, I'm going with the Tremec T3550, but so far I have 50k miles on it without a whimper.
Mudge
The T5 in the old Camaros has a bad reputation for being weak, with a lighter car and almost not traction it might not be so bad, but ultimately you will want something better. Some people have had more luck than others.
utvolman99
I dont think the T-5 from the ZX is the same T-5 that was in the V8 camarros or Mustangs. I would think that putting that behind a healthy V8 would be like pulling the pin on a pinapple granade!
