280ZX SBC guys.......

Recommended Posts

What would you guys with SBC 280ZX's say to having a page or two for your car on my website? You could send me some pictures and a small write up and I could make webpage for ya? I just think that the 280ZX's dont have enough info on certain parts of the swap and it would help guys who want to do the swap in the future! Like for one, the drivers side header issue. I wish I could have had some pics of a custom header for the gear box style p/s system before I made my header! Oh and how did you adapt the chevy power steering system to the datsum power steering system? Any other custom stuff you have done to your 280ZX!

Just let me know if you are interested here first because I have to clear out my email box first if your going to email me pictures.

Guy,

I'm all for it. For the power steering, I adapted the GM pulley to the Datsun PS pump and fabricated a mounting bracket. I'll try to get some pics to you, there is one in my photo album. For the driver's side exhaust I followed Greiman's lead (for now) and used the manifold that Dave used.

Great idea - I only wish I were far along enough to submit a picture, but I just got the JTR book today, so I have a long long way to go. I will document and fotograph as I progress. At this time I don't even have a foto of the stock zx. Probably should take it as a "before" shot.

Anyway, its good to see some interest in the ZXs even though they still seem to be the "Rodney Dangerfields" of the series.

Well your more than welcome to summit a photo of the car now and what you plan to do with it as far as engine, tranny, rear end set up, suspesion, and any other custom stuff you have in mind!

At first I wasnt thrilled about have the 280ZX for a V8 conversion(I enharited it from my father when he passed away in 99'). But now I really like how everything is turning out. I love the way the MSA body kit looks, I ablsolutly love my new rims, and not to mention its actually pretty comfy to drive in! :D Yeah it doesnt weight 2500lbs but it should be somewhere in the high 2900's- low 3000lbs range. Im not too concerned with the weight. I figure it just makes the car stronger in areas where the Z's arent. Dont get me wrong I love the 240, 260, and 280s. In fact I want to use a 240Z for my next conversion with hopfully a new 5.7 HEMI.

Nice looking ZX Guy! I have 81 turbo that used to look like yours..(some fool painted it white!! :twak: ) Mine has the power rack and pinion set-up in it. I am still getting all of my ducks in a row to install a 305 TPI/700R4 from 85 Z28. I have most of the wiring issues worked out and most of the interior stripped and ready to go back in. I am going to get the body work (small amount of surface rust) done and car stripped to the metal for painting here in the near future. I am going to repaint it original color with MSA front and rear bumper covers. I am going to run sidepipes, a large rear wing and add 2 white stripes down the hood/top/deck. My version of a Viper! :2thumbs: I do not have any pictures but I am working on making up some drawings showing what I did for the wiring. I also installed autometer gauges in place of some of the originals.

When I get some of this done, I will send it to you if you are interested.

Guy,

The drivers side manifold is one my cousin had laying around, but I believe it is from a mid 70's Camaro. It has a casting number of 364747. On the passenger side I just used a rams horn manifold, one my cousin also had laying around.

Again, thanks for hosting the page for me.
