Guest 1975yellowBSPZ
I finally have my second motor in my car, go to start it and... it turns over, starts, idles ok for a second and starts reving like it taking off to outerspace. I had to kill it. tried again, same thing. Odd thing it didn't run rough (ie bad timing) and it started right up, it just wanted to rev up like a dyno run without my foot on the gas. Its a 280 with FI and pretty much everything have been apart, so I just need to know if anyone knows what I should look at to narrow this down. I hope it didn't damage the motor... HELP HELP HELP any one in Dallas is more then welcome to stop by and check it out, It's quite a sight at present... Bryan
COZY Z COLE
Do this first. Check your accelerator linkage, idle speed adjustment screw, and replace your air regulator . LARRY
Guest 1975yellowBSPZ
Thanks for the reply, I was understandably frustated! I mostly have it sorted out, the accelerator cable was binding the last 1/8 or so as it went into the sleeve. I'm going to lubicate the whole thing with teflon spray and re-aim the bracket so it has a cleaner pull. It just really looked like it was returning to the detent position after I let off the peddle but it was stoping just an 1/8 inch, which was plenty... the motor idled but it sounds awful, not sure what the problem is. Might have spent it Bw
sims76
Disconnect the throttle linkage where the linkage coming out of the firewall meets the linkage on your intake. Have a helper hold the throttle plate open using the arm on the throttle body while you start it. Mark how far it should be open at idle. When you hook the linkage back up, if the throttle is not closing enough, you have found your problem without having to worry about the fast idle valve. -Sims
Guest 570Z
Wow, I have to say, that is my biggest fear that that will happen. I just ran a direct Lokar kit with Morse cable or something like that, just keep it away from stuff, I guess...
