Guest quadcamZ
i am running the toyota 4 spot calipers on vented disca and skyline rear brakes. what is ideal for proportioning. ATM the rears lock up before the front but not much. ( the rear tyres are no where near as good as the fronts) i am running 205's all round but have my eye on a set of 235's. so do i worry about a proportioning valve or not? the setup will change with tyre friction. this is a pretty common brake kit here in aus some one must have done it before. johnc
You want the fronts to lock up just before the rears and you want both fronts to lock up at the same time if you're traveling straight on a smooth road. Sounds like you need and prop valve.
Phantom
Yeah - better for the fronts to lock and start to plow than the rears to lock and swap ends. Right John? That seemed to be the way it worked at TMS this past Friday!
johnc
better for the fronts to lock and start to plow than the rears to lock and swap ends Its a matter of taste - do you want to see what you're going to hit or do you want it to be a surprise. Now that's damn funny! Speaking from experience, John? I had a leaking master cylinder on the 'Cuda at Laguna Seca, where I lost most of the front braking and had to stop with the rears w/o getting axle hop. I was still fast, just scary going into the corners and the really good guys would dive into the inside & out-brake me going into the hairpin. Sucked, but gets back to Phantom's problem of bad brakes. More experience and the right setup, you can still go fast, just not "as fast" as you'd like. hehe

Guest quadcamZ
Rotating tyres would not bew cool as that would wear out my god ones. i know what you are saying and it should make a huge difference i think if i want to runn old tyres on the rear and have it stop the way i want i need a proportioning valve or just put good tyres on all round. does any one know how to adjust the rear R31 handbrake properly mine drag a little ( just replaced pads and rotors) tried to screw them all the way in but it did not give enough clearence on the caliper. Guest cs14silvia
I ve been thinking about upgrading my stock brake. so what type of the car are the 4 piston calipers from? skyline rear brake bolt on straight? and the discs, do you need spacers or some kit to make it work? Guest quadcamZ
Rears straight on is an exageration with some grinding and messing around but not much gets the hanger to fit disc bolts straight on. put the caliper at the top. all off a R31 skyline put the left caliper on the right and use teh zed handbrake cable get new brake lines made up. this will take a while but all you need is an angle grinder a good file and somthing to take the stub axle out. oh i forgot weld up the holes in the carrier get the centre bored out to suit and drill new bolt holes in the caliper hangers bout $50 at your friendly engineering shop. front if you want hilux 4 spot from non vented calipers fit straight up over the 260 z disc . if you want vented DBA 185 disc 240K hub Landcruiser off vented disc ( mine are off a 1990 ish cruiser) i think 100 series might fit caliper 2*2mm washers and it is a mornings work stops pretty good for a $500 upgrade
