Guest 2002sentraSER
i work for advance auto parts and i can pick up a totally remanufactured 69-79 corvette long block asembly with 4 bolt mains and the whole nine yards included except intake manifold, carbs oil pan and timing covers, water pump, and alternator. And i can get the whole engine assembly for $900 after discount and core charge and have a 3 year guruantee on the engine does anyone think this is a good or a bad idea and why please advise, so after i get that i can buy all the other parts from there to get it running except transmission and does anyone know where i could get a remanufactured t10 or t56 or maybe a wct5 for realitively cheap ecause my budget is really low right now any help or suggestions would be great
Guest greimann
It would be helpful to know the casting numbers of the heads, what type of pistions (flat or dished) and the camshaft specifications. 69 to 79 is a prety wide span and it is most likely a generic 350 with parts that are not necessarily "Corvette". It will probably make about 250 hp and be pretty tame.
Mike C
This appears to be a service replacement type deal as the 69-70 motors would have had small chamber heads. If it is an L-82 long block with big valve heads and screw in studs, it is a pretty darn good deal! They are still open chamber, but it's a nice price considering the warranty. Otherwise, get the short block and the Vortec head setup from GM.
Guest SteveR
I work for AAP as well. I was considering doing the same thing for my '86 300ZX: Find a junker block to send in for the core and get a 4-bolt 350 for around $700 after the employee discount. But while hunting for my tranny, I came across a 305/T5: $1000 for both from a good salvage yard. So I'm going that route instead. You can't get a rebuilt short block from AAP, at least not in my district...
Guest Anonymous
Nothing wrong with a wash and wear 350 SBC 4 bolt main block from your work with that warranty. After reading the latest self reporting misery thread on V8 conversion costs.... get a motor...you can always replace it a few more times in the next few years... I am determined to replace all the exposed bolts on my engine with stainless steel that I really do not need. I had to borrow a nickle from Nate today to complete another stainless purchase. The stainless fastner obsession is almost cured (finished). I was under the car yesterday and found myself admiring my reflection in the chrome plated oil pan. I didn't need it but itza pleasure to find yourself looking back while you are down under LOL.
