Guest beechkingd
I'm about to intall a Chevy V-8 in my 76 280Z. Has any one ever heard of any chassis failures on a 280 that have been modified w/ high HP. I'm looking at the area of 400 to 500 hp. If you have how have you prevented/corrected them. Thanks
Mudge
Cage, strut tower bars would be my first two choices. High HP in a unibody car especially, will twist the body, stiffen up that bad boy.
Zfreak
I agree, sub frame conectors, cage, and strut tower braces should keep it from popping spot welds. I even welded braces from the rear side of the strut towers to the fire wall. Im also using a strut tower brace to tighten up the engine bay. Look at the pictures on my web page. Guest zfan
Is MSA the only ones who sell front and rear strut tower braces? Mike
Phantom
Mike: The Alamo Autosports folks in Arlington sell strut tower braces. Lots of folks make their own. Do some searches and you'll find others on the web, besides MSA, that sell them. I was just looking at the MSA catalog Thursday night and, if the one they sell for $90 will fit on a V-8 conversion, it looks like a pretty nice unit for a reasonable price. Obviously no problem with the rear tower brace unless you've built a cage that goes through that area.
Guest Drewz
You won't have any problems until you get a little hook out of the hole and then I hope you like the way Bo and Luke got out of the general lee??? LOL
