Guest Fred P
Hi List, I'm new to this forum and to Hybrids. Last summer I bought one that needs a lot of work.A 1974 260 Z with a 350 cu engine and some kind of automatic transmission,(how can I tell what kind?) I just got it into my shop last week and I have a lot of work ahead of me. Pushing it into the garage my tranny mount let go. All it is is a steel bar about 18 inches long with a little rubber in the middle. Is that A Chevy mount? The floors are rusted out of the car where the PO had the mount bolted to. Sort of the frame rail under the seats. I'll need to weld in new ones. I never did that before. What gauge metal for the frame and floors would you recommend. I'm not a welder but I own a 130 amp MIG should do up to 3/16 steel I think. Well that would be my first problem to overcome. Any advice appreciated Fred
Mike C
You may have the JTR style trans mount. The JTR manual is a good buy for anyone with a hybrid but will help you ID your install as well. Here are a couple of links to trans pans identifiers: http://www.tciauto.com/components/transmission_pans.htm http://www.yourcovers.com/newindex2.htm Motorsport Auto sells floor pan repair sections, or you can use a micrometer on the good part of your floor to correctly ID metal thickness. You may also check with Sherman and Goodmark who are aftermarket sheet metal suppliers. I know Sherman has some Z parts.
Guest Anonymous
First of all,Welcome to the forum.Your in good company. As far as the rust repair goes, the most detailed rust repair, and strengthening projects I've seen here is Pete Paraska's car.If you go back to the main page,It's one of the featured cars.Lots of info. The trans is a turbo 350 if the pan is a square with a corner cut off,or a turbo 400 if the pan looks like the state of Texas.(no,really)If it does'nt look like either of those, its a 200r or 700r (AOD).I'm not sure what they look like,I have'nt picked mine up yet.
