deMideon
I am using the JTR mounts and Sanderson block huggers. I had to cut the motor mounts a bit and I think they are Ok, but the headers are pretty close (about 1/4") and I need to know how much distance I need. I would hate to get on it hard and no longer be able to steer! I will post some pics very shortly (Gotta take them first!) Thanks!
Tim240z
I have about 1/8 inch between my headers and setback plates. No problems. I also had to 'clearance' the plates a bit.
Mike kZ
I think he meant 1/2" between the header and steering shaft Tim, but even that should be fine.
Tim240z
Oh..OK..that was a bit fuzzy... I have <1/2 inch and it's fine too.
johnc
.001 is plenty of clearance to the steering shaft as long as nothing ever touches.
deMideon
Oh good!! .001 will work! I just checked and it's more like 1/4" clearence. Thanks everyone!!
Dan Juday
There is a very scientific way to test for proper clearance. Have your best buddy stick his pinky finger in between the steering shaft and the header. Start the motor and rev it hard idle to wide open and then back again several times while whipping the steering wheel back and forth. If his finger comes out smashed and burnt but there is no damage to either the header or the shaft you are A-o.k to go!
