16" x 7.5" Borbet Wheels

Recommended Posts

After having searched for quite some time through the Brakes, Wheels etc. fora, I have yet to find the specific answer to my question.

The question: Will Borbet Type B wheels fit on my Z?

background info:

car: 1973 Datsun 240z.

custom:

Tokico Performance HP struts

Modern-Motorsports coilovers

5 Lug Z31 front rotors

Toyota 4x4 calipers

5 Lug rear Brembo rotors

240sx rear calipers

Modern-Motorsport prepped 5 Lug stub axles

wheel specs:

Brand: Borbet

Model: Type B (Borbet calls them Design CBB)

Diameter: 16"

Width: 7.5"

Bolt-pattern: 5-114 (I hope they mean 5-114.3) Freakin' TireRack

Wheel offset: +35mm

tire specs:

Yokohama AVS ES100 205/55-16

When inquiring about the 5Lug setup from Ross @ Modern-Motorsports, he mentioned that I would be able to use wheels manufactured to fit some Toyotas. This makes sense, since they have the same bolt pattern. I can't find, however, what the centerbore is on those rims. Also, I don't know how the clearance will be with that wheel/tire combo. Is 7.5" too wide? I plan to have some spacers to make the offset 0 (or whatever necessary). It seems using the stock offset is best. Right?

So, I found these wheels by searching for wheels for a '96 Toyota Camry LE at TireRack.

Will this setup work? Should I buy them now? If not, what should I get? I like the style of these wheels (BBS is out of the budget). Unfortunately, I didn't want the size of MSR 103's (even though the black ones look so sweet). The Borbets are nice, clean. I photoshopped them onto a recolored version of Pete Paraska's Z and it looked pretty good. I can only hope my car looks as good as his.

got any pics od the wheels? I think sticking to the stckoffset would be best. That is what the car wasdesigning to handle originally. Personally I think adapters is a bad way to go. Think about if you are going to change your brakes you have to take the wheels off the adapters off then the brakes. Plus you lose some structural integrity and they are extra hard on the studs I'd think. 7.5" wide should be ok, but I'm no pro, wait to hear from someone else. If you allow yourself enough backspacing you can use any width wheel!

Why not go to a local rim dealer and find something with the same specs and see if they fit.

Thanks for the reply. :)

So, are you suggesting that I go to the rim dealer and see if I can get specs on wheels from them and compare to measurements I take of the Z, or that I drive the Z there?

If it is the latter, perhaps I should have explained the condition of my Z. It isn't exactly a "Garage Queen." It's more of a "Barn Jester." Since I have no 5-Lug wheels, I am unable to make any comparisons to something I already have, that works. Also, the car is unregistered, uninsured, and undriveable. The suspension is actually completely stock at the moment. The parts I mentioned previously are what I have ordered and will be installing soon. I am trying to find some rims that will look nice, ride well on Vermont roads, and fit my car (I suppose if they didn't fit, they would neither look nice nor ride well. oh well, things sound better in threes. )

Perhaps I could just take the Z31 hub to the dealer. Good thinking.

Sweet Z, by the way. I'm very jealous.
