Datsun 710 Swap Options

My friend just found out that she's missing a cylinder (blown ring) in her 1970 datsun 710. Does anyone know of a swap I could do that would have moderate power and still be cheap? I have some experience with swaps, but I don't have a welder, so I can't fab up my own mounts. Are there any mount kits that would work (or could be minorly modified) to fit a newer Nissan engine (or maybe a used v8  )?

Sorry this isn't Z related, and for not knowing anything about nissans/datsuns.

Thanks

-Kai

Does that 710 have an inline 6 or a 4 banger? If it's the 6, I'd asumme it's the same as the Z motor... if its a 4, I'd think a 240sx (or older 80's 200sx) engine would probly fit in nice... might even mount up to the stock engine mounts in the 710..

I believe they came with the L18 1800cc inline 4.

Don't have any clue what would be compatible but an SR20DE or SR20DET with the appropriate tranny would make a nice ride.

A GA16DE would be a nice motor for it also but mating it to a rear-drive tranny might take more work than it's worth.

^^ Sorry, I'm just going of what she was told. Will the L20B just drop right in with the stock mounts, or will I need custom mounts? THanks.

If its a 1970 model it is probably a 510. If it is a 710 then yes an L20B will swap in. There are many internet clubs that cover the motors in those cars.

The Datsun 510 email list(the Bluebird List) is a great place to ask your questions. You will need to subscribe (register) but they won't ask you to "do a Search" before they will answer your questions. The 510 is called a bluebird in Japan.

You can register by following the info here:
