Guest Anonymous
I've sat down for about an hour and a half trying to figure exactly how I want to do my SBC Conversion the best, but cheapest way possible.I'm going to buy a Rebuilt 350 from Auto Zone,Install a 282 Cam and stick it in for under $1000,(just for the engine). Then,I came to my transmission plans.I either want a 4 or 5 Speed Manual so it will still have that Sports Car feel.Any suggestions on either one of those transmissions that are reliable and strong, but can get it for a decent price?I am thinking under what I am going to pay for my 350.I've looked at a T-5's on E-Bay for $500 that came out of Mustang's.Will they work? That's what I've heard most people use.Anything just as good but any less?I've always wanted to do a V8 conversion to my Z and now I have my chance.I have to install new floorboards, rhino lining to the frame rails, inside fender wells, floorboards, underside of body..etc.You know how it goes.Any suggestions about the tranny would be helpful! Thanks, Izzy Middleton

Guest Anonymous
Will the 'Cobra "R"' Bellhousing hook up to the 350 and the tranny to that? Then,if it does, what kind of clutch will I need? Izzy
Guest Thurem
The mustang T5 will not bolt up without an adaptor plate, don't know if any are available. Yoy can convert one by getting a chevy case to put it into (ie. take it all apart and replace casing). Then you have to either shorten input shaft or replace it with a chevy unit, which you can only do if the trans has the same 2.95 first gear ratio as a chevy trans. I'm doing this myself. Check out web page for more info. Thure
Mike C
You can buy either a Mcleod or Lakewood bellhousing with the ford pattern and register. You will have to run an adapter pilot bearing This is probably a better deal than getting the Darkhorse Tremec or GM T5, especially if you have to have/want a scatterhield. That way you can run the much more common much cheaper Cobra Tremec or WC T5.
