Guest ProfessorRog
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1874148241 i saw this on ebay and was wondering whether his claim that "Rebuilt motors are SUPERIOR to "new" crate motors, because rebuilt crate motors are disassembled, remachined, and then reassembled after any "core tempering" has occured . . . " or is that just some courtesy smoke blown up my arse.
Guest SagZ
Well I went googling and the first thing that pops up is a site dedicated complaint of Mark's Performance Engines Here is the link Complaint Email I've never heard of them.... so tread lightly if you are thinking about purchasing from them
Guest silverbullet
Yes, a lot of engine builders prefer a "seasoned" block because it has already gone through most of the structural shifting it will go through and has gone through many thermal cycles but after logging on to that site I am not sure I would buy from that guy
grumpyvette
(1)looking at the picture its obvious that MARK'S PERFORMANCE ENGINES PHOENIX, AZ appears to be and most likely is some kids garage (2) after reading the E-mail Id say that anyone DUMB ENOUGHT TO BUY FROM HIM IS A CERTIFIABLE IDIOT (3)yes used blocks in near new condition have become more stable as to the dimensions after heating and cooling several dozen times, but be aware that corrosion takes a toll over time and its not at all unusual for a block thats more than 15 years old to have corroaded to the point that its unusable IF electrolosis or plain water not anti-freeze was used over long periods , marine blocks can corroad to the point they are almost falling apart in only a few years if salt water is used for direct in block cooling
Guest Anonymous
Whoever that Mark's Performance Engine fellow is, he could be criminally charged with racial harassment in many jurisdictions. Unbelievable attitude.
Guest ProfessorRog
Ok, I'm just trying to get a general knowledge of engines before i go buy one, I dont think I'd buy anything expensive over the internet anyways, unless it was too good to pass up. I was just curious as to whether a remachined block was better than a new crate block. I'm looking to make a daily driver out of my 280Z and im not as informed on mechanics as I'd like to think I am, So I'm probably gonna lean towards a long block thats almost turnkey ready. Someday, someday . . .
Guest zfan
After reading the complaints I would take my money and run like hell The guy really has a hang up/hates Jews. How sad! Mike
Mudge
A used block is actually stronger than a new block in terms of heat treatment which naturally occurs over time, at least according to David Vizard. So supposedly many hipo jobs, heat treat a block and then re-machine the surfaces, or use a used block for the job and re-machine everything, since heating it in an oven will destroy the old machine job surface tolerances.
