Guest Anonymous
Helps very much to have a 1973 or less. Tim 240 Z is the California Smog Alert Hybrid Chairman in this Forum
DavyZ
The engine needs to be the SAME year of the car or NEWER with ALL of the smog equipment installed. 260Z's, 280Z's, and all later models require this. However, if the car is a 240Z a smog check is no longer required, but keep in mind they don't expect the car to have a V8 either. If you can afford it, put a stock V8 in a 240Z, legally register the car with the smog legal motor, and then after getting the door jam plate from the State, take all the smog stuff off and modify the poop out of the motor. Since you have a 280Z already, work with that instead---the upside is that they have 'frame rails' extending to the back of the car and feel more refined on the highway. A smog legal swap can be done rather easily, but again, make sure that the motor you are installing is the same year as the car or newer then the car. JTR also makes a TBI/TPI swap manual. Buy the JTR manual: JTR Hope this helps. If the 'search' function on the forum is working, spend weeks reading all the posts. I'm sure that 90% of what you ask is already hashed out 10 fold. Good luck, Davy
Guest Anonymous
BTW Davey Z is legal counsel to the chairman on California smog. Where I am at is still primitive but have it drift up here occasionally out of California,
