Guest Cronic
Alright, this just started recently, and it's an annoying tap commin from the head of my L28ET, There is plenty of oil in the car, and I popped the valve cover off, everything seemed ok, nothing was loose or anything. The car only does it sometimes, under WOT it doesnt do it, and it comes and goes while idling... Im assuming it has something to do with oil pressure to the head. Although Im not sure. Any ideas? Drax240z
Have you adjusted your valves lately?
Guest Cronic
No sir, haven't touched the lash. I assumed it could be the lash.
mjfawke
L28ET? That would be the P90 head with hydraulic adjusters?
Drax240z
Only the 83's had the P90A head with the non-adjustable hydraulic lifters, 81 & 82 turbos had a P90 head with lifters requiring mechanical adjustment.
Guest Cronic
Mine is an 83.
Drax240z
Then if it is a lifter that is making noise it needs to be replaced.
slownrusty
So if it is in fact a sticky hydraulic lifter, how do you go about determining which is the bad one, with the valve cover on and car running? Yasin
Drax240z
A stethoscope should narrow it down for you... It is pretty tough to isolate however.
Guest Cronic
how can I go about replacing this? Should I just get another head and swap it on there or would the lifter be easier to replace?? I know very little about headwork.
