Guest Slvrhase
I'm sure there are several here who know this answer but this is my first time building an engine with anything other than stock fasteners. After getting the block back from the machine shop, I went to put the crank in and started to bolt the main caps on and found I was short two washers. The machine shop says it was that way when they got them(bolts were new and in the box.) So do I need to contact ARP and try to buy two washers or does one of the main caps not use any washers? I can pull two washers out of the head bolt kit (would still be short two) just to get it together but wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong by putting washers where they were not needed. Make sense? Thanks for any advice and Happy New Year to all!!

grumpyvette
(1)YOU NEED the two washers (2)no! before you ask! hardware store washers can NOT be used!because the washers are required to have a beveled inner edge that matches the underside of the bolt head and the washers need to be a specific hardness, dia, and thickness plus have a surface smoothness that allows correct torque readings (3)summit carries them in small packs for those of us that replace them frequently BTW
Guest Slvrhase
Thanks Grumpy. I knew if I needed them they would have to be the AN type with the inner bevel. Just wasn't 100% sure there wasn't something else going on! I'll just order from Summit, will probably need the extra anyway! Thanks again!
