Guest livedrive
Hey guys, I just replaced my pads this past weekend and noticed the conspicuous absense of brake pad clips on my right front discs. This is on the stock 73 240Z brakes. My question is this... What do those clips do exactly? The pads seem to be held in place exclusively by the posts that run through the caliper and the codder pins that hold those posts in place. Info would be helpful... Also, I noticed that the anti-sqeal spring and shimms are missing from both front pads. What exactly do those do? [Aside from preventing squealing. ]
datsunlover
The 'clips' you refer too may just be wear indicators. As the pad wears down to a ceartain point, thay contact the rotor and make a squeal/scraping noise telling you the pads are low.
johnc
The little spring clips hold the pad in the proper position when you're not on the brakes. They also stop any pad rattles. The shims stop squal. All those parts are needed for proper operation and, even during a 10 minute endurance race pit stop, we remove and replace all of those parts. Guest livedrive
Well, I wish I had known that stuff was missing before now. I've only had my Z for a year, and haven't had to do anythign to the brakes till now. I was able to find a kit that has the brake pad clips, but so far haven't been able to find the anit squeal springs and shimms. Anyone have any ideas on where I might be able to find some of that stuff If so, that would be super great!
innerware
I get mine from the Z doctor in Richmond CA. 510-237-9645 Or amybe try the Z Barn 1800-247-2793. I don't have a motorsport auto mag around but maybe they have them too.
