Louiem
I've been aquireing parts slowly and I'm almost ready to start my low budget chevy swap. I'm using the JTR book. So far I have gone by the book. It's going to be a mild 350 with a camaro 5 speed. What did most of you guys use for a drive shaft. I noticed the manual suggests using chevy u-joints and they have a flange available. Did anybody use theirs or did you have one made? How about the speedometer? Do we just use the cable avaible at JTR?
spdsk8r
Louie, My first hybrid Z was a low budget conversion back in the late eighties. For a driveshaft I used the Camaro shaft and had it shortened by a local driveline specialist. I bought the yoke from JTR. My conversion had a Turbo 350 trans. for the speedo cable I used the stock Datsun cable housing and got a universal cable core from NAPA to fit a Chevy. The Datsun housing end is close enough to the Chevy in size, so I chased the thread with the appropriate tap to change it to fit the Chevy trans. That was my low budget way around those issues. I hope this helps.
DavyZ
Louie, you may find the part numbers for a flange from NAPA auto parts that will work, but use the search function in the "drivetrain" forum. I bought their flange because it came with the kit and was well made. Davy
