denny411
What is the width between the frame rails? I don`t have my car with me, so I can`t measure it myself.
johnc
Measurements from my 1970 240Z. Every Z will be a little different due to accidents, age, stress movement, etc. 25.5" wide between the frame rails. 16.5" high from the bottom of the frame rails to the top of the radiator core support. 14" high from the top of the frame rails to the top of the radiator core support. denny411
I`m looking for more of a performance radiator. something that will handle cooling a 550 hp engine with maybe a little overkill for insurance. I`ve been watching ebay for some deals, but wasn`t sure what would fit. What about max height?
Guest Anonymous
Denny..19 inches places the lower part of the radiator about 2 1/2 inches below the JTR radiator mount. A radiator of 20 inches or better may put the bottom tank of the radiator in view from the front (or sidewalk) My first inclination was to get a wider radiator and just "hog out" the frame rails and box them in to fit a larger size radiator (at least 28 inches wide). I do not see where this would hurt structural integrity at this very forward postion of the frame rails.I wound up with a 24X19 Griffin and the first sign of over heating... the sawzall gets plugged in and it's butcher time on the funny farm. Guest Anonymous
A good choice is a mid '90s S10 truck with Vortec V-6. With good venting and fan it has proven to cool a 780hp big block running 12 to 1 compression and lots of stall in the automatic torque convertor (and well priced and light too!). Also to note is the stock radiator from a 1983 280ZX Turbo will cool a momnster like that too, (My rad in my low ten second 4000 pound '68 Impala burst and I used the Datsun rad as a temporary fix. I almost fainted when it cooled better than my four-core GM!). The stocker is a little heavy, however.
Guest Anonymous
Denny.... right at 25 3/8 inch between frame rails on a 280 Z................ You do not want a radiator ecceeding more than 19 inches in height.... They say a 1985-92 full size chevy van 4.3 L V-6 makes a good conversion radiator for a SBC V8 as does a 1977-78 Pontiac Gran Prix
