Guest 007fastZ
difference b/t long style and short style water pump
Mike kZ
Well...long style has a long snout, short style has a short snout. Short style will give you more room between rad and pump, but long style is easier to line up an alternator and/or ac compressor, and easier to find brackets
Guest PROJECTRB240SX
IIRC THE SHORT WATER PUMP IS 5" FROM BLOCK TO BRACKET FOR PULLEY AND LONG IS 7".... ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH IT BUT I THINK THATS WHAT IT IS. BTW: ALMOST EVERYTHING IS A LONG STYLE PUMP ONLY THE VETTES AND THE PRE 74 CARS WERE SHORT AND EVEN SOME OF THOSE WERE LONG SNOUTS.
Guest 007fastZ
As for the v8 in a 280zx is there a better choice b/t the two
72zcar
i dont know about a zx but its prob about the same and all i can tell you is its about 16 times easier to set up the alternator brackets with a long pump i have two v8 zs..one with a short and the other with a long and i think i tried about 16 brackets before i got the short mounted using pieces from this or that i cant even remember..i think i have mad cow plus the short had to go on the drivers side because the head sits forward on the passanger side and the alt would have to be mounted above the head with a short pump..too high for the hood to close..the wiring is on the passanger side so it was harder to wire also
Guest 007fastZ
Thanks for all the help guys, i'm going with the longstyle pump
datsunlover
I you got the room, yah use the long one. I used a short style pump in my 85 RX7, just because there was so little room in there between the engine and rad. I can't see that being a prob in a Z though!
