80LS1T
I posted this in the misclanious section but that section doesn't get many responses, so here it is... Well from what I have read so far I have come to the conclusion that electric gauges are easier to install but mechanical are more accurate. I have chosen to use electric because I am using a 93 LT1 and T56. I have also chosen to use Autometers Phantom Series guages. Now heres the questions.... What size are my tach and speedo, What size are my fuel and water temp, And what size are my volt, oil press., and clock? Also will the fuel guage work in my car? and if so how does it hook up to my old units wiring? I think that's it but for some reason I feel like I had another question! Thanks, Guy
Guest VETTETEK
8OLT1 I hear yah on the gauges. I have the same situation in our car. I dont have the exact part numbers handy right now, but Ill try to find 'em if you need. The speedo and the tach are the autometer 5" Monster Gauges. The 3 others that fit right into the dash holes are 2 5/8 gauges. Youll lose your clock and one other gauge. I believe they fit 5 gauges (2 split) into those holes. We have a Oil Pressure, Water Temp, and a Fuel gauge. We feel those were the most important ones for us to have. If we ever feel a need for a fuel pressure, ammeter or a volt gauge, we may build another"pod" for those sometime. As far as the fuel gauge working with your setup...im assuming the stock tank, I am not sure what resitance they use. I believe that Autometer only offers the Fuel gauges in GM or FORD resistance. Youll have to take an Ohmeter and check the swept resistance of your sending unit. (e-f) The GM one I believe has a 0-90 ohm resistance, and thats what were using for a sending unit in our fuel cell. You may end up going that route eventually too. I hope that helps, Sorry about any typos.... Jeff Oh, I do have some pics of the dash up at my site now under the "seats/interior" link. They may be useful to you on your install,Im still working on that section, I will have more pics of greater detail for the seats, and gauges updated on monday. RPMS
Sorry, Fastass, but I think you might have given some incorrect information. Guy seems to be driving a ZX, and I'm not sure they're 5" gauges. They look a bit smaller, but that might be because they're clustered together in one housing, like you can see here on Greimann's fine ride. I haven't seen Phantoms installed on a ZX yet. I suppose it could be done, but I don't know what circuitry is behind the individual gauges in the instrument cluster. Might not be possible without fabricating something completely new. danj
RPMS How did you insert the pic into your post? I have a pick of the Autometer guages in my ZX that I think will answer some of these concerns about fit. Dan H

danj
8OLT1 I don't have a web site yet. I'll send the pic to you via the email address you posted. The pic will show the Autometer guages fitting snugly into the 83ZX dash. The center guages for the speedo and tach are the 5" Pro or Sport Comp. guages. They're listed in the on-line Autometer catalog. Dan H

80LS1T
Ok here it is! What size are those gauges that are in the main console that you used for the fuel gauge and the A/F mixture guage? Also did you have to cut anything on the old cluster to make these fit? Did you have to make a special bracket to make any of those fit? Oh and one more question, did you use the housing that the guages came in or did you have to take that off to make it fit? Also how did you get your fuel gauge to be accurate? Thanks for all the help, Guy
80LS1T
Ok I got my Phantom Guagues today but the Speedometer is mechanical. I thought the Phantom was electrical? Can someone tell me what autometer speedometers are electrical? Thanks, Guy
80LS1T
Never mind I found it on Summit. I just ordered the wrong one! So now I will have to wait another 3-4 days for that to arrive! That's ok cause I'm doing my CV and R200 swap this week anyways. Guy
Georgia Flash
Man oh man Vettetek, I envy guys like you who can do so much with a car. I would be terrified to try the things you guys did! That custom frame is soooooo sweet! I spent about an hour drooling over that frame and its fat tires on your site. When you guys are done it will be one of, if not the badest Hybrids on the block!
