JTR vs MSA (other?) for a 1972 240

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Just bought a 1972 240 and joined this renowned site to figure out the best way to drop a chevy 350 into the beast.

So far I've found JTR and bought the manual; good reading and lots of info. Their kit looks good, tranny mount (700R4) will require some doing.

Found Motorsports Auto, and visited them to buy some parts and talk about their kit. Looks OK also; tranny mount maybe better thand JTR, but JTR motor mounts look better.

Anyone know of others and have an opinion over whose is best? I know about setback and engine height and JTR seems to have this figured out real well, but MSA claims theirs is just as good.

Just looking for good old fashioned opinions; thanks for reading all this.......

the msa kit is a good setup..most of the guys around here are using the jtr mounts...both are great and will work well..i cant say if one is better than the other...the jtr units are used more often since you can make them yourself with the help of the jtr book...i have a v8 z that i bought for a freind that has the 350 in a scarb position...i plan on moving it back to a motorsport or jtr position..either way it should be fun..good luck with your car man.

I used the MSA kit and it was very easy to install. The tranny mount fits up inside of the driveline tunnel and allows for very easy angle adjustments for tranny-rearend alignment. It takes a little creativity to install the tranny mount and the MSA instructions are very poor, but if you need help one of us can guide you through the install procedure. I used the MSA tranny mount to install a WC T5 five speed trans and it all bolted together without any mods required. You can see pics of the tranny and engine mounts on my photo site below.
