Guest Cronic
My car will do this randomly. Mostly in the morning when first turning the car on, to goto work. The car will barely idle, it's completly undrivable with out turning on my EIC and throwing the extra injector's fuel in there. It's almost like my stock injectors are just not working, or are barely working. I've replaced the MAF, the vac lines, the injector clips, replaced tps/plugs/fuel filter/fuel pump/fuel relay. This seems completly random. It will come and go with out warning. Sometimes after the car warms up, it'll go away. Other times, it'll stay with me all day, creating HELL when driving. Popping, backfires, a load of nasty black smoke... everything's unreliable when this happens.... can anyone give me some info? My next step is replacing the ecu. If that doesn't work. Im going with Z31 maf/ecu, or standalone.
Guest Cronic
I can tell it's running lean, by looking at my a/f guage (narrowband) it sits dead lean, and then dissapears off the guage. I know these aren't accurate, however in this instance it's letting me know I am in fact stupid lean.
Guest Zcarsmakemyheadhurt
Try the grounds on the intake for off the EFI. Also look for air leaks, and or head temp. I would honestly and truly recomend a standalone, not only because I sell them but becuase these problems never really fully stop. Stock EFI sucks. datsunlover
Could be you have one or two bad/sticking injectors.. Sounds JUST like a priblem I had with my old 81 zx.. Black smoke, sputtering, ect. Sometimes (towards the end) it'd stall and not start for a while.. Try pulling one injector clip at a time (when it's sputtering) and see if it changes anything.. Guest Cronic
I tried pulling each injector before, nothing really happened with any of them! It's so weird... and it's so random. When I get the money for a standalone I would love to get one. I had standalone in my Honda and damn if it wasn't the best thing around. I miss my Civic

stagefumer11
ive been having the same problem. Hard starting when cold. Id need to crank for at least 10 seconds for it to kick. then it will backfire out the intake a few times while it trys to Run cold idle. then it comes right. To me it sounds like a fuel problem. Ive got a huge fuel pump running on the stock system. and never used to have this problem. Today. after going for a run of 10 mins, turned it off left for 5 mins. came back. and it wasnt getting fuel, it was getting spark. "aftermarket taco" but again no fuel. After 2 mins of cranking it finialy came to life. "weird" now i know its not the fuel pump system. as its running on a new relay system
