How can I hook AN fittings up to my LT1 fuel rail?

Recommended Posts

I know I've seen people with AN fittings on LT1 fuel rails before but I dont have any pics of it and Im not sure how to go about it? I am going to install new hard line from the fuel tank to a filter on the firewall(cartrige type) then run SS lines to the fuel rail. I would like the lines coming from the fuel filter to be SS and connected with AN fittings. Im just not sure how to do it?

Anyone got some info on how to go about this? And pics would be good too?

Thanks,

Guy

EDIT: Ok I found some info on LT1tech.com. Seems most guys TIG weld in fittings to the rail. Now can I put the supply on one rail and the return on the other rail? So then I would just install the fittings on the back of each rail and delete the old ports by filling them in(welding over them). I would guess that this means I need an aftermarket regulator then? Once I get this rail situation figured out the rest should be pretty straight forward.

Also were is good place to get AN fittings for cheap? :D We got any venders out there that will sell them for cheap to a fellow Hybrider?! :D:D

80LT1,

A company named Pured Choice Motorsports sells adapters that will attach directly to the feed and return lines that are already on your rails which convert them to male -6 AN fittings. I just bought a set and they are very good quality. Price was $34.95 I think. I bought a bunch of other things from them at the same time so I don't remember the exact price.

Here is the URL for their website:

Is this the "kit" your are refering too? Do you have yours yet? Im trying to figure out how that attaches to the stock rail? Do you keep the old hard lines or does this eliminate them and then attach these to the rail?

I cut the pipe threads off of 2 AN fittings and tig welded them to the end of each fuel rail. Here are a couple of pictures of the rail. They have been on my Camaro for the past 5 years. No problems at all.

The stock crossover at the front of the rail is still in place.

I run a Paxton fuel pressure regulator, which has the return line directly off of the FPR instead of the rail. Some said that the return had to be at the end of the rail, but I have never had any fuel delivery or vapor lock issues, even when running an ATI D1 Procharger on this motor.

80LT1,

Sorry for the dealy man, I kept getting timed out on my login and didn't see your post. I didn't buy the whole kit just the connectors that attach to the stock feed and return lines on the rail. The whole kit is like $99.00 but the parts I got were $34.95.

I'm in the process of installing totally new lines right now so I don't have pictures. I'm putting in 3/8" hard steel lines from just behind the diff to the firewall and then will use steel braided teflon flex from the tank to the filter and pump then to the hard line and from the hard line to the rail connectors. The hardline I'm using is actually from NAPA Auto and they sell it as brake line with double flare ends already in place. I'm using ~80 inches both directions I think, which will give a little extra at the firewall end. This stuff is much cheaper than steel braid and just as tough. It's a bit of a pain to work with but not to many bends are required. Pure Choice Motorsport sells adapters that I'm using to convert to and from AN and double flare pipe. Makes for a very easy job.

Unfortunately it's going to be a while before I'll have pictures.

The Pure Choice part # for the connectors is: 5800.

Select the New Products link from their main page and scroll down about half way. They are listed for 39.95 on the site but I got them for $34.95.

Jegs and summit sell hard line adaptors. they use a compression type of fitting on the hard line and give you an theads to attach the braided line to. I cut the "bump" off the lt-1 fuel rail and used these. Has worked well with no leaks for over 5 years. Mark

Can I just buy the -6AN fittings and put those on the hard lines? The reason I ask is because the lines are not the same size. I think one is 7/16" and the other is 5/16". So a -6AN is is 3/8" fitting So basically its right in between the two sizes?

Guy,

The lines at the rail are 3/8" and 5/16" outer diameter. I measured them with my calipers. If you do buy the -6AN fittings you have to make sure the hard adapter converts to those sizes or they won't work.

If you do decide to go with the compression fittings be sure to clean the coating off the line before installing them just to be sure it won't leak.
