R200 3.545 are the bearings the same?

I have a R200 with 3.545 gears from an unknown donor car.

I went nuts and bought a quaife LS, and I want to rebuild it with new bearings and seals whilst I am at it. The problem I have is finding bearings and seals without knowing the year of the car the diff came from.

Are the bearings the same for all of the possible donors ? As I understand it could have come from any of the following.

280Z Manual 75-78 R200 3.545:1

280ZX Man. Turbo (B/W T-5) 83 R200 3.545:1

280ZX Turbo W/Auto All R200 3.545:1

There are lots of references in the forums to differences in the ring gear bolts sizes, but the quaif is drilled for 10 and 12 mm so that is fine.

Just about any link I chase lists lots of 4x4 stuff but nothing for the r200, the next closest is rockauto and their web page requires a year and model, but does list a variety of bearings.

Thanks Mike

Thanks, I will add that to my spread sheet.

I would never have beleiveded it would be so hard to cross reference everything, I think I will have to visit some industrial/automotive bearing retailers in person and look in their books to be sure of what fits which year.

The R200 pinion and side bearings are standard bearings which can be obtained at any good bearing supply company. Just use the part numbers printed on the bearings. However, the front (input bearing) is special and can only come from Nissan (same goes for the seals).

Unfortunately it seams that Nissan don’t carry the 38335-N3100 bearing any more. I first tried with Nissan Europe (where I live) but they responded that it was discontinued. I then asked a friend in Seattle to check with Nissan USA but he got the some answer. Does anyone know if there are some dealers that still carry it?

For what’s it worth I have included the list I made over the seals and bearings in a R200. Be aware that I did the list to aid my own purchasing and I have not confirmed it yet. In other word I have not yet installed the bearings and seals that I bought because I missing the 38335-N3100 bearing.

Unfortunately it seams that Nissan don’t carry the 38335-N3100 bearing any more....

That’s too bad. :( It seems that I hear that a lot whenever I try to order any Nissan parts. I got one of the 38335-N3100 bearings from a local dealer only six months ago. Hard to believe that it may have been one of the last available.

The 38335-N3100 bearing is a Koyo type 83601A. It is a single row deep groove ball bearing with dimensions of OD = 73mm, ID = 28mm and a length of 16mm.

You can try contacting Koyo, their USA web site is http://www.koyousa.com/ I have spoken to one of their application engineers before about another Nissan bearing (used in the steering rack) that was no longer available from Nissan. After of lot of looking and cross referencing it was determined that this bearing was specifically made only for Nissan. I’m sure that this applies to the 38335-N3100 bearing as well.

My other suggestion would to use another bearing and have a collar machined for it so it could be used in place of the 38335-N3100 bearing. An SKF type 62/28 bearing has the dimensions of OD = 58mm, ID = 28mm and a length of 16mm. So you would require a collar with an OD of 73mm and an ID of 58mm (length of 16mm).
