Guest Script
I’m looking to buy a LS1 that was pulled out of a wrecked vehicle. I’m wandering if there is any thing on the motor or ECM that could possibly trace it back to the original vehicle and its VIN # so through car fax I can figure out what the mileage on it was? The person selling it does not have a vin, and I hate going on peoples word.
Tim240z
The VIN is held in the PCM. Not sure how you can get to it, maybe a Chevy dealership can help out? The mileage should also be in the PCM.

Guest Script
DaleMX, Could you describe where the VIN is located on the block, That way I could just give the seller your instruction.
love-my-V8-280Z
You can use any software to view the vin off the computer. here is a view of what I get off tuner cat
Guest Script
If there is a VIN located on the block this would probably work out best for me since I could check before I bought. Will carfax say how the car was wrecked if it was rolled, T-boned, rear ended, ect..?
DaleMX
Ok, here’s the picture. The VIN number is located on the drivers side block back by the flywheel and is a laser etched number, not a stamped number. It is very hard to read. The number is actually a VIN derivative that contains the last 6 digits of the actual VIN and can be used to determine if a vehicle contains the original engine or transmission. http://www.circuitflex.com/VINstuff.jpg
