Guest ALL UC2
OK, IM HELPING A FRIEND PUT A LS1 INTO A 97 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP, AND WE HAVE A ??? ABOUT THE TRANS. OK, THE MOTOR IS A 2000 LS1 AND THE TRANS IS A 96 T56. WELL APPARENTLY THERE IS A DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THE LS1 T56 AND THE LT1 T56. THE LT1 HAS A SHORTER INPUT SHAFT. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT WE HAVE TO HAVE TO MAKE THE LT1 TRANS WORK ON THE LS1 MOTOR IM PRETTY SURE ALL WE WILL HAVE TO DO IS USE A LT1 FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH.BUT I DONT KNOW, WAS HOPEING YOU GUYS WOULD. DaleMX
Go to http://www.LS1tech.com and ask that question in the transmission section.
jbc3
It is possible to swap over an LT1 T56 to an LS1, not necessarily practical though. You need to change the front cover and the input shaft (4th gear). Also the bellhousing and fork are all different. The parts are all pretty expensive since there are no true aftermarket parts. I would suggest that you sell the LT1 version and buy an LS1 version. You should be able to do that at nearly an even swap.
80LS1T
The LT1 style of T56 is a pull type clutch set up where as the LS1 style is a push type clutch set up also. They may be called the same thing but they are not. Just sell the LT1 T56 and buy a LS1 T56. Guy
