Guest avriettea
I've been given a good deal on a 383 short block. Since I've been thinking of getting an WRX STi or an Evo, it works out a lot cheaper for me to just put a V8 in the Z. I'd been wanting to go with a tweaked L28 (mine needs a rebuild), but I talked to Rebello, and nobody really seemed interested in working with me. So, V8 is the cheap, easy, and fast alternative. I was thinking, it wouldn't be hard to go with a pair of log manifolds and do a turbo, too. I'm partial to turbos. Anyways, what sort of fuel injection would I need to get to do that? I know Holley used to offer a product they called Annihilator, which is kind of like the "fake carburetor" EFI that GM used to offer on their V6's and V8's. Is there a similar producct I should look into? Or is there a real, modern, aftermarket fuel injection system that uses individual injectors and, say, manifolds? How hard would it be to graft on an LT1 EFI system? I mean, specifically as regards the turbo. Anyways, for now, I'd just be interested in hearing if anyone knows shops in the DC/MD/VA area that I could take my car to. Alternatively, I'm more than capable of doing the work myself, but live in an apartment. If anyone would be willing to let me borrow their cherry picker/driveway for a couple weekends in the spring, that could work too. I can come up with pizza, beer, and other necessary funding if required. Guest BurnOutZ
avriettea, You Live in Front Royal? theres a Z collector there that has 2 private Z junk yards.. (with anything BUT junk there) he has over 130 cars in those 2 spots, and has a barn/garage of Z cars with mods and stock. he does alot of work to Z's and hes a bit greedy when it comes to people selling their Z's in the area. But hes a really good mechanic and does awesome work for cheap. If I was you I would try to contact him. I know where he lives, just cant give you directions.. as I only know if I were to take you there. Maybe after the holidays is over we can go see him, as I need to have some work done to my Z and he would be a good person to get it done. I live less than an hour away in WV. give me a yell. Mikelly
There is a Z shop in Great Falls Off Rt.7 in Northern Virginia... Datsun Dynamics... However, be forewarned that sending something like this out to a shop to do will be VERY expensive. There are a number of us in the DC/ Maryland/ Virginia area... Glad to know there is one more! However' date=' be forewarned that sending something like this out to a shop to do will be VERY expensive.[/quote'] Yeah. I know about Datsun Dynamics. I've called them a couple times and they've been pretty apprehensive about doing the work. The first thing they said was they insisted the car was registered before I bring it to them. Well, the car needs a bit of work (new engine, new transmission, new tires, alignment, etc) before I can go and get it inspected and registered. They also can't even give me rough estimates on work. I had told them I wanted my L28T rebuilt. They couldn't ballpark it. I was kind of discouraged, and I know that just to take the car to them is going to be expensive and tedious. They just don't seem to want to do the work. Alex
