awd92gsx
Pete, That's very strange. I'll look into it, but...nobody else has mentioned it...so...I'm wondering if, like the above post, somebody somehow hacked into or used my email add'y... Thanks for bringing it up to my attention. Hotmail is usually pretty good about filtering viruses, but... Which virus is it? Did it say?
pparaska
I can't remember which one, but I think it's the one Davy mentioned. Mike gets a virus every month or so on his home computer How hard is it to make an email look like it came from another account though - I'd think that'd be pretty tough... awd92gsx
Well, I just installed, updated, and ran Norton AntiVirus...no viruses found... If the virus was attached to an email, it would almost have to be a Hotmail issue. I don't use outlook express or any other PC based email software. With hotmail (a web based email server) you just type onto a site, just like this almost, and it goes directly from Hotmail's server to whatever email add'y you're sending from...with nothing actually being *sent* or uploaded from your computer... That's very strange...but, check out www.astalavista.com sometime. There are about 1000 articles on cracking into somebody's email acc't Lemme know if it happens again!! Guest bang847
I think the Klez virus attacks mostly outlook. it doesent really "hack" any accounts but it uses the headers as a front to fwd itself. so if you got a email from someone else it did not nesscarily come from that email address. It uses their email headers like all those spammers do. for free klez removal ftp://ftp.kaspersky.ru/utils/clrav.com Yeah that is nasty... pparaska
Duh, sorry for the false alarm on that one. I guess I'm just a neophyte (about email address spoofing). But I'm glad you don't have the virus and you now have up to date protection!
awd92gsx
Hey, no problem. I'm glad I'm clean!! Always use protection. For the sake of others.
VRJoe
These viruses get email addresses from infected sources and use those addresses as the sender. The from address may not be the real sender. These viruses have also infected some email servers, so who knows where that email is really from. Get Norton and be safe. I've gotten "returned mail" with the virus attached that not only did I not send, but I have no idea where the to address came from. -VRJoe
