TunerCat for an LT1......I've got some questions!

Recommended Posts

I am finally starting the process of switching my LT1 over from the 93' computer to the 94-95' computer. I just purchased a harness from a 95' TA. Now the harness is for a Auto tranny but the only thing that goes to my tranny from the computer right now is the VSS signal wires.

Now will I have to run with a MAF sensor or can it be defaulted to the speed density? Do I have to run the MAF to have the multiport injection or will it go to a bank fire like it is now with out that? Oh and does running a MAF make more power due to the air intake being measure more accuratetly?

How do you guys with the TunerCat know what kind of changes to be made are needed? Do you all have wideband O2 sensor like an LM-1? Or are you guys just going to a dyno? I personally like the idea of a LM-1!

Also can someone tell me if the 94-95' O2 sensors are heated? I know I will have to buy a few new sensors due to the connectors being different or sensor being different.

Oh an just how much modifing does the factory harness need? I know there are somthings that I can delete from the harness like any emission stuff, cruise control and A/C. What other mods are needed?

Thanks guys!

I have the service manuals for that spicific year, and in these two volumes of info I remember reading that each PCM is designated at the factory, issued a identification number (bar-code) for each vehicle according to various particulars for instance, manual-trans vs automatic, In my cast vin-J or vin-P two different engine options. I don't know how interchangable those control modules are between yrs 95' to 93'- 94' various models makes etc? I have the tuner cat program also, but have yet to explore it as I'm just firing this beast up today. Yee-haw!

Well I know that the 92-93' LT1 PCM is different in many ways than the 94-95' PCM. The main reason I am switching over is so that I can tune the car myself. Its too expensive to go to a dyno and get a print out of my A/F ratio and send in my computer and then have them tune it again. Then go back to they dyno to see how it is now. And then do it all over again to get everything right. Plus I just want to learn how to do it!

I have the "new" harness now and I will start looking at it this week to see what I need to do. I know I will need a OBD1 data connector(the one that goes under the dash) and I know I will need eliminate some of the connectors that are on the harness now. I just hope that some of the sensors are the same as the ones I have on the engine now! I really dont want to buy all those sensors!
