Guest 83supaZ
i am in the process of building a 383 stroker.. how much HP can the ZX handle (mine has t-tops) without twisting and t-tops leaking.. i wont be racing it ALL the time.. but it will get drove at the track sometimes.. wanting to know if i need a roll cage? and anyone know what speed in the 1/4 REQUIRES a roll cage.. i'd imagine the z's are FAST w/a 383... can you guys that have a 383 post your 1/4 mile times.. and engine setups if you dont mind? dr_hunt
It's not speed, it's time, 11's require a cage, unless it's a convertible. I don't know how much they'll handle without twisting. I'd bet you'll be testing the HP output all the time!!
Guest 83supaZ
LoL yeah i probably will be until the gas mileage bites me in the a##!! so would a 383.. with stock 74cc heads w/port polish.. pistons to bring compression around 10:3.1.. edelbrock rpm intake.. holley 650 double pumper.. lunati voodoo cam with duration @ .050 233*/241* lift .504/.525 LSA/ICL 110/105 rpm range 2200-6400 2400 converter stall in a 280zx run 11's? how much hp u think it would have? dr_hunt
depends on the pistons, probably close to that with flat tops. I'd guess 11's but I might be wrong. Your biggest HP gain is with heads or NOS, Heads are the better way to go in the long run IMHO.
Guest SC457A
11s will be close, but im thinking mid 12's. my combo is similar, but i have better heads, more stall, slightly larger mild roller cam. and its more for racing than street. but i baby it at the track. shift low (5500-6000) hp id guess 300-350 at flywheel my old combo is pretty close to yours. ran best of 12.90s at 106 mph on a 235/60/14 tire. your cam is larger than mine was. but im lazy and don't tune a lot. Hey. Stop building that 383. Get in touch with Mike Kelly. (he is a list administrator) He has a newly built 383 for sale. If he sells it, he can install his LS1 in his Z instead.
