chrismoose17 Posted January 4, 2005 Share Posted January 4, 2005 i went to a local junkyard today to find a manual transmission for my 350 sbc to go into my 280ZX. well they had a manual transmission out of a 90' camaro 6 cylinder. the guy told me that chevy used the same transmission in the 6 as the 8 cylinder, and all you had to do was get a different bell housing. is this true or is he trying to make a sell. it is a borg-warner but i dont know anything else about it. Guest bezeenu Posted January 4, 2005 Share Posted January 4, 2005 The trannys for 6 & v-8 will bolt up the same, but the 6 model will not stand up to a v8 for long. qwik240z Posted January 5, 2005 Share Posted January 5, 2005 They have different torque ratings and also different spline counts. The 6 cyl. T5 is only rated at like 200 ft pound of torque. Psykovertible Posted January 6, 2005 Share Posted January 6, 2005 From what i remember...... teh tranny's will bolt up but the input shaft is different sizes and you will have much difficulty with clutch plate matching between the 6 disk and the 8 pressure plate.
