Guest ruutm82a1
Does anyone know what's the horsepower limit for a stock 280z rear differential I also was looking for suggestions as what to swap it with . I have a 1987 Corvette with engine bay fire damage that I thought about using the front and rear suspension from it for my 280. I,m thinking about using a Grand National engine for the power plant but I want it to be a manual transmission. My other option is a Maxima engine with some other transmission. The key is lots of horsepower 500 horse at a minimum. I also want to do a wide body kit . I may build my kit not sure any suggestion. Can anyone help me make an informed decision. blueovalz
Again, welcome to HybridZ. We're not trying to discourage qureries for information, but his subject is once again very well documented. Search for "R230" in the drivetrain forum in regards to a differential that is tougher than the R200 (even though the R200 is a tough piece). There's a ton of information and pictures in this regard. We had one member document a Vet rear-end as well (wished I could remember who).
Guest Cronic
Friend of mine wen't 11.90@127mph on his R180 welded diff. The R200 is much stronger.
johnc
The R200 is much stronger Unfortunately, things are not that simple. A R180 with a Nissan Comp LSD or a Quaife installed will be stronger then an open two side gear R200. But, a R200 with either of the above diffs installed will be very strong and works well for 99% of the folks here on HybridZ.
Guest Cronic
Given, but my point was that the R200 diff is strong, and will hold plenty of power. Even in the 500's.
