Guest iskone
I was looking at John's site the other day and ran across this pic. I think that would look sick on my Z, not the flares because as we all know those are tight. But the way they look bolted on with the bolts painted or not painted even. I think it would give your car a "this is a race car b*tch" look. Not to mention the obvious cheap way to install the fenders and still look nice. If one was to use dzues fasteners it would enhance the whole race look plus be easy to take off and work on your car. I was thinking of just using YZ's in the rear and either nothing up front or ZG's in the front. What do you guys think? Isk
Jason Jarvis
I think I prefer the molded and smoothed in look myself, but it is an interesting look, especially if you are going for the serious race car style. I was thinking YZ's in the rear and ZG's in the front myself, but I think I am going to end up with Subtle Z's in the front now.
Dead Roman
i lvoe that bolted on look. they would look kool on a blue z with the flares painted flat black and the bolts polished silver
blueovalz
This is why I chose to stay with the pop-riveted look on my quarter panels and hood vents when I converted the car to street use. It maintains the competition look, and if done well, does not detract from the overall quality of the paint and bodywork. The first time I saw something like this was on a Pantera in the late '70s and it "skewed" my idea of attaching body panels, such as flairs, for life. Guest iskone
I'm convinced it will look sweet. Today is the first meeting of the autox club I want to join, so if I get sucked into the racing world I will do it for sure!!! I just love how it can be for cheap and still look good. Anybody know of a car with YZ's in the rear in ZG's up front? I would prefer the subtle Z front end but it is what like 4 times the price of ZG's. My car is white so I would have all panels painted the same color and it should be an easy match. Isk

Actually white is the one of the HARDEST colors to match it you really care about it being perfect... Jason
preith
IMO, on a race car, it's almost a necessity to keep them pop-riveted on, and not blended in. The chances of an off track excursion are pretty good, and it only makes sense from a practicality standpoint.
Guest iskone
White harder to match? I always thought it was black. I checked the price of ZG's $185 for a set of four. I could sell of the rears for like $50 and keep the fronts. Or put the rears on my 280!!! Isk
Jason Jarvis
White harder to match? I always thought it was black. Isk I worked in an auto parts / body shop supply for a few years, black can be harder than people think, but white is a killer. All mixes have a bit of color in them, even white. Get a few extra drops of red, you made light pink, yellow, cream, you get the picture. Add to that that there are several mixes of white, even in a single manufacturer, add alternate mixes to those (because even the suppliers to GM don't always make it the same) and you see where I'm going. Guest iskone
Well it looks like I'm buying a set of YZ's off evilrufus, can you say HELL YEAH!!! I'll just take the car to a shop and have them do the install. It will be some time before I install the YZ's tough since I want to wait untill I can do the AZC 5 lug/disk brake/6 piston caliper upgrade and buy fat ass wheels. Guest racerxlite
I riveted the flares on b/c this a racecar only. If for some horrible reason I galnce off a wall or hit a cone during a Solo Trials/Solo I at over a 100+ and crack the flares, I want to make installation of new one's fast and easy. If this was for the street, I would have moldes the flares in. A friend of mine has the MSA flares molded on, but they are pretty cracked from autocross and he's looking a lot of work and paint to replace them. Before I added the YZ kit I had the MSA flares w/ black rivets holding them on & it looked great. As I need to replace the existing rivets, I will probably switch back to black.
