Recommended Posts

I know I asked this question a few months ago but the tread must have got lost when the site switched over to the new format.

I tried to search the tunercat website but no info there.....

Soooooo, what kind of laptop do I need to run TunetCat and program my PCM? Do I need a moduem? and a CD rom? I just need some basic specs so I can tell a guy at work so he can "hook me up" LOL

Thanks guys!

Thanks guys! I asked a guy at work today to hook me up with a laptop with 1Ghz processor, serial port, dial up modem, and a CD-ROM for less that $500. I think it'll be way less than $500 though. He's said it wont be a problem. Now all I need to do is get my new fuel system in and put the drivetrain back in so I can get the new harness wired in!

Ok Wheelman, I take it the USB to serial converter is just want is sounds like. I want to get a newer computer because I plan to use it at home too now. So I was looking at getting a new, faster, and nicer computer than originally planned. I just want to make sure I can still use if to tune my car though. So if the computer I buy has a USB port but no serial port can I just buy that converter and use it like originally planned with an older computer?

Thanks,

Guy

Subject: laptop serial port questions..........

I am looking at using TunerCat to edit the PCM for my

LT1. I have a question thought about the requirements

for the laptop though. If I have a laptop with USB ports

but not the older Serial ports. Can I buy some type

of USB to Serial Port converter and still use this

laptop?

Thanks for the help,

Hi Guy,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the C.A.T.S. Tuner program.

All you'll need to make calibration changes to your car is the Tuner

program($69.95) and the $EE ECM Definition File ($19.95).

In addition to the software, you'll also need an ALDL interface cable

to connect your PC to the PCM for reading and programming the PCM. We recommend the cables from AKM Electronics (www.akmcables.com) and TTS Power Systems (www.ttspowersystems.com). These interface cables require an RS232 serial port on your PC. If your PC does not have a serial port Craig Moates (http://moates.net) offers the ALDU1 USB to ALDL converter and CABL1 OBDI style cable or CABL2 OBD2 style cable.

If you have any other questions, or would like additional information,

please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

TC

Hope that clears it up for anyone else wondering the samething!
