Drax240z
Hmm, nothing came up in a quick search. What wheel studs are people using for the z31 front hub/5 bolt conversion? Trying to get an idea what size shank I need to fit the Z31 hubs without having to redrill them significantly. I'd like to stick with metric studs if possible too. Any info appreciated. JMortensen
If the knurl size is the same as stock (around .603" IIRC) then there are 2 good options. There is a Camaro stud with a 12 x 1.5mm stud that has a .607" knurl. That should go right in. Found it at Summit Racing. I believe it is the 2nd gen RX7 that also has a very similar knurl and 12 x 1.5mm stud. That's what I'm using now, it might very well be EXACTLY the same as the Camaro stud. No need to drill for either one. EDIT--Must be .503, not .603. I think this the part number: ARP-100-7708. Obviously better verify the knurl diameter... Drax240z
These ones? On ARP's website: Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, late GM Knurl diameter: .509 Length: 2.500 Nose: .315 Thread: M12x1.5 PN: 100-7708 Can anyone confirm that 0.603" size for me? My hubs are not in the same city as me at the moment. And Jon if you have a PN that would be a huge help to me.
JMortensen
From zhome.com: Well, in case anyone ever needs longer wheel studs for their Z, I have done the needed research for you ). The ONLY place to get longer studs with the right thread and knurl is from Nissan Motorsports (or whoever may act as a distributor for them, e.g. Motorsport Auto). The only drawback is the price - $8 a piece!! For the cheapskates (e.g. me!), I found a reasonable alternative. The studs from 86-92 Mazda RX7 are 52mm long (i.e. 10mm longer than the longest Z/ZX stud), and have a 12.9mm knurl diameter, slightly bigger than Z's 12.8mm knurl. I pressed them into the original hole without problems. Since they are the same diameter (12mm), there is no need to remachine hubs, rotors, wheels, etc. HOWEVER, they are 1.5mm pitch, while the Z has a 1.25mm pitch, so new lug nuts would be required. Anyway, at $1.30 per stud, this was a bargain. 12.9/25.4= .507" Sorry for the faulty memory...
Drax240z
Perfect! Looks like metric might not be an option for me thohgh... Need a ~3" long stud. I guess I'll need new lug nuts anyway.
JMortensen
I think my RX7 studs are 3". Just out of curiosity, why would a 3" stud work but not a 2.5"? Are you running a 2" wide spacer?
