JessZ
What I want is a daily driver that runs on pump gas, is much quiker than my stock early '71 L24, and sounds great. So, I have a few options, which one sounds most appealing for what I want, what would you guys do. 1. I buy a stock L28 with early dual Hitachi's, headers 2. L28 lopey cam, tripple webers, headers 3. Same L28 as (2.) with lopey cam, but early dual Hitachi's, headers 4. port and polish my stock already great running L24, headers I seem to be getting more confused as I ask more questions, but this may ultimatley lead to a (Z)en desicion, so please mighty Z-lords tell what I should do. I've heard that tripples may not make the L28 quiker, and an after market cam can actually hinder performance. The L24 is a great little motor and even better when it flows easier. And the L28 with a cam and tripples is great, so what is the deal? thanks again, JessZ

datsunlover
You could get a zx N/A driveline (2.8 and 5 speed) and simply drop it right in... OR (this would mean some parts sourcing) get a 2.8 from a 280z, which the carbs/manifold should bolt right on to, and then find a 5 gear from a zx (81+ are the better 5 gears i believe) ..that would run on pump gas, AND be reliable. I would say it'd be a bit quicker to.. Basicaly this is what I'm running in my 75 180z, but I'm going to be using a 240sx 5 speed (bolts onto the older Z's bellhousing with a few mods) and have yet to get it all together. I switched to the carbs last summer and diched the crappy stock FI and it was a HUGE improvement in power and drivability. For best milage, FI is the way to go, but IMO is more expencive and less 'tuneable' (talking about stock Z FI systems here) I'm not sure on this, but was told once that a 240Z cam in a 280z head (N42) is a good combo.. acts as if you added a hotter cam, without the $$$ spent on a hotter cam.
