Brake pads question

I am going to do a brake upgrade conversion this weekend on my Z. I am doing the 300zx rotors all around and 240sx in the rear and vented toyota 4 runner calipers up front.

I am installing new pads also. My question is what pads will work good but not be worthless in day to day driving. I have been in cars where you have to really heat the brakes up for them to work and then they are awsome. If they are not warmed up then you have no brakes or next to no brakes.

Does anyone out there have any recommendations for a good brake pad that is daily driver/ street friendly?

Mike

I have to second the recommendation for the Hawk carbon-kevlar pads. They stop your car better than cheapo pads even when cold. It stopped my car well even when I was at the verge of boiling my fluid!

John is right. They are really quiet. They actually have no squeak at all on my car! He's also right about the dust.

I know I'll buy another set for my car.

KVR. I have been super happy. Have Ross from ModernMotorsports hook you up. I had him get me a set for my Impala. Brake feel improved dramatically while practically eliminating brake dust. Bought same for my ZX front/SX rear disc conversions.

Thanks Mike.

Zfan, the KVR pads are very good cold and have a fine linear friction progression that goes beyond what you'd expect from a street pad. This and very friendly rotor wear and nominal dusting makes for a great combination. Yesterday we were doing laps on a 1/2 mile oval at the speedway

in Ken Jones Supercharged Z car with Modern Motorsports front 4x4 setup and R4S pads and Modern Motorsports rear disk setup you're installing with KVR rear pads. Hawks, while being a great pad we work with more on full race setups, won't compare on rotor wear or dusting for a street purpose from our experience.

Nice to drive around town and enjoy the highway and be able to have some spirited fun safely all on the same setup!

Hope this helps,
