george.bryant
Hey guys. Since I replaced my headgasket (cooked my other one in nov/dec) the needle on my temp gauge goes right up to the top of the gauge as soon as the key is put in and turned to acc. Its annoying as I dont know how hot/cold my engine is really running. I'm assuming theres something wrong with the thermostat but I'm not too sure what or if that is the problem. Anyone got any ideas? George
quicker240
Sounds like the temp sending unit wire is grounded.Try unplugging it from the sending unit(single wire sensor on the front side of the thermostat housing) and see what happens. If it goes all the way back down, you probably need a new sending unit.Make sure everything is clean when you reassemble it.Spec for testing the sending unit in a pot of water is in the shop manual.Pretty easy if you have a DVOM.Good luck!
